Now it’s your turn. Let’s use art to have a dialogue about America. – Eric Fischl

America: Now and Here brings us together for a new experience with visual art, poetry, music, theater, and film. Through America: Now and Here, art is the beginning of a cross-country journey and a lively dialogue about America.

As participation is key to successful dialogues, participation is at the center of America: Now and Here. Through programs, educational initiatives, a website and social media, participants of all ages and from communities large and small will be invited to contribute their own experiences, insights and ideas. Together, America: Now and Here will become a cross-country journey and dialogue, through art, about America.

As participation is key to successful dialogues, participation is at the center of America: Now and Here.

America:Now and Here has both community-based programs and activities (discussed below) and an active online programs and activities (discussed elsewhere on our web site). See How to Participate Online to join in the American View and share your art, in Americans Participate and share your ideas for  activities to do in your own community, in Studio for Learning and share curriculum-based projects, and our Twitter and Facebook posts for up-to -the-moment info on the role of contemporary art in shaping America.

When ANH programs visit your town, Community Engagement will be central to every aspect of America: Now and Here. Public programs will be developed and presented in partnership with regional cultural institutions and artists. Programs and interactive media will seed conversations about many of the themes encountered in the project before, during and after the America: Now and Here tour and will help expand audience engagement beyond those who experience the tour. All programs will encourage audiences to explore, rediscover and share their responses to the content of America: Now and Here.

Artist Corps is an initiative for young artists in undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs. Participants in this signature program contribute their own work to America: Now and Here and come together through a dynamic and growing community of peers – young artists who are fostering new relationships between art and American society. Artist Corps are invited to join the ANH staff to support youth and community programs as well as social media. Through community-service projects, Artist Corps seeds a national service initiative for young artists and designers.

American Dialogues: From State Dinners to Interstate Diners brings artists “to the table” with civic, business and cultural leaders for celebratory meals designed for thoughtful conversations about timely issues and compelling ideas. Served in the setting of the America: Now and Here installation and breaking from the conventions of formal conference presentations and banquettes, the meal becomes a work of art, designed to surprise, provoke and inspire.
