Austin Buckingham

Title: Lamp:Basement (Found Objects)

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Oriented in a 16 inch clay pot, held in by concrete and dirt, there will be a support beam cut from a location and reassembled in the space with reference to the state it was found in, though with its previous function removed, and re-oriented contextually for appraisal of all the features it was not originally designed with attention toward, potentially. The piece is fraught with personal artifacts and imprints of the persons who have interacted with these materials, forming the accrued/renewed state they find themselves in today, in this moment.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Austin Buckingham is from Wichita Falls, Kansas, and received his bachelor’s in Photography and New Media from the Kansas City Art Institute. He currently lives and works in Kansas City, MO.
