EXCERPT FROM THE INTERVIEW
If pressed to label myself, poet feels most fitting, though there are those who do not believe my work is poetry. Personally, I believe that no situation is ever absolutely wrong or right: subjectivity is the only objectivity. A poem is an extreme distillation of experience, which engages the reader or listener and causes a change, either in their worldview, their view of themselves, their understanding of their relationships. Americans need so urgently to express themselves, for the sake of connection and truly moving forward. Poetry exists outside of time, unattached to any age, a conduit for the transcendent as much as the quotidian in our day-to-day life.
