In the Spring of 2010, The ANH launched its Artist Corps program by sending a select group of RISD students on their own American journeys. Their projects will continue to be posted on this blog and can be viewed in full on our website. Some stayed close to home and composed artwork inspired by their local neighborhoods, while others, like Alexander Winthrop, a sculpture major, travelled further to uncover what they didn’t yet know:
“I set out to explore public spaces and to see if they were functioning at the levels they should be, but ran into really horrible rain and found myself mostly alone in neighborhood parks. At first, I felt pretty lost, but I think that eventually…worked much better as a starting place for exploration.”
